500GPM is the most popular capacity mud system for HDD, CBM and other trenchless activities. GN Solids Control dispatched a 500GPM mud system to clients.
Firstly, remove the shaker box locking device of shale shaker GNZS703E-HB and mud cleaner GNZJ703E-D8N (Please refer shaker user manual and mud cleaner user manual for detailed operation). Then have a trial operation to shale shaker and mud cleaner.
All valves for pipelines are on off state after dispatch from the manufacturer’s factory. Before start up the system, operator should open values first and ensure all of them unblocked.

Then, start up shale shaker GNZS703E-HB and mud cleaner GNZJ703E-D8N. After the shaker and mud cleaner is running stably, start up submersible slurry pump to feed for the shale shaker. It is the first stage separation. When the mud reaches to three quarters of the 1# compartment underneath shale shaker (about 1 minute), start up the desilter feeding pump (1# sand pump GNSB6x5A-12J). Mud will be transferred to the mud cleaner 4’’ desilter cyclone from the 1﹟compartment, at a pressure of 0.25~0.40MPa. It is the
second stage separation. The clean mud from 4’’ desilter cone flow to the #2 compartment. When the mud height reaches to the overflow pipeline, it will overflow to #3 compartment. The user-owned mud pump is connected to the suction line of the 500GPM mud system tank and transfer qualified mud to wellhead. The clean mud can also directly flow to outside storage tank through the desilter output pipe.
When needed, users can start up the mixing pump (2# sand pump GNSB6x5A-12J) and feed to the mixing hopper GNSLS35A. The weighted mud from mixing hopper flows to 3# compartment. The suction port and discharge port of mixing pump are equipped with T-pipe, it can also mixing/discharge mud from/to outside tanks.  
Pay attention to the performance of the desilter cyclone. Ensure it works properly. If not, adjust the cyclone adjustment cap for a better performance. Pay attention to the figures on the pressure gauge of desilter cyclone, ensure it is under the scope of the working pressure. The working pressure of 4’’ desilter cyclone is 0.25~0.40MPa.

Centrifugal pump can also be called sand pump. It is widely used for oil and gas drilling rig mud system. It can be used as mixing pump, desander desilter feeding pump, centrifuge feeding pump, trip pump, charging pump etc…

There are different functions of centrifugal pump in oil and gas drilling rig mud system

1) Centrifugal feeding pump
Centrifugal pump can be used as feeding pump for desander, desilter and decanter centrifuge. It is normally mounted on the slope tank or skid of the mud tank.

2) Mixing pump
Centrifugal pump can be used together with mixing hopper as the mud mixing system. There are 2 type of mixing mud system with centrifugal pump.
One kind of design is both the centrifugal pump and mixing hopper with ventury are mounted on a separate skid, they are connected through pipes and values. And then connected to mud tank.
Another kind of design is more compact. It is built-in design onto the system. The centrifugal pump is mounted on the same tank skid, while the mixing hopper can be mounted on the tank top or on the tank skid.

3) Trip tank pump
Trip tank (5~10 cbm) is normally equipped for oil and gas drilling rig mud system. It is before shale shaker tank. And a small motor size centrifugal pump is requested for the trip tank.

4) Degasser pump
For European made vacuum degasser, it is not self suction type. A separate degasser pump is requested to generate vacuum for the degasser.
Unlike European brand vacuum degasser, GN Solids Control made degasser is self suction type. It does not need degasser pump. It can save the power of the total mud system.

Customer can also use centrifugal pump with other functions. GN Solids Control makes centrifugal pump from 15hp to 100hp, with size vary from 4×3 to 8×6 to suits for different applications.

Shear pump is a kind of centrifugal pump no need safety valve at outlet. Below is reasons explained from function and pressure source.

Explain on Functions to confirm shear pump no need safety valve

Shear pump is a kind of centrifugal pump. Drilling mud get a certain amount of kinetic energy while leaving impeller under the impeller rotating centrifugal force. Mud also get some certain of pressure in the pump housing, the pressure does not vary with the change of time, pump outlet size, but only depends on impeller structure, size, and rotating speed. As the pressure at shear pump outlet is not vary per pump flow or working condition. It is no need to match safety valve.

Explain on pressure to confirm shear pump no need safety valve

Driving motor and shear pump connected directly with belt. Design speed of impeller is 2200RPM (max.). Under normal working situation, like for 60hz motor, max. speed of shear pump impeller is 1800rpm, much smaller than the design speed. The maximum pressure generated from high speed rotating of impeller centrifugal force is constant. The max. shear pump pressure is 0.47MPa. The outlet pipeline and pump casing can surely withstand the pressure. In this case, it is no need to match safety valve.

Even in the case of the outlet is blacked or the valve is closed, pressure generated from the impeller rotating is larger than pump outlet, drilling mud cannot be discharged, and circulated within pump housing under the rotating force of impeller. If the outlet is blacked or the valve is closed, and mud circulated within the pump housing for a long time, the worst condition is to increase the temperature of pump housing in some degree. The pump pressure will not increase. Therefore, it is no need for mounting safety valve in shear pump outlet pipe.

1) First stage solids control – Shale shaker GNZS594E / GNZS703E linear motion, 3 each

2) The second & third stage solids control – Mud cleaner GNZJ594E-3S-16N / GNZJ703E-3S16N, 1 each

3) Vacuum degasser GNZCQ360 to remove gas from drilling mud before enters into mud cleaner desander / desilter cone.


4) The fourth stage solids control – Decanter centrifuge, 2 each

 One decanter centrifuge GNLW452S in middle speed for barite recovery.

 Another decanter centrifuge GNLW363 in high speed to separate the low gravity mud.

5) Jet mud mixing & shearing mixing system, with GN high efficiency centrifugal pump and shear pump for chemical shearing and mixing.

6) 7 each Mud tanks: shale shaker tank, decanter centrifuge tank, suction tank, mixing tank, shearing tank, storage tank 1 or 2 each
