GN agitator is a very common machine in drilling fluids system. But many users wondered: why the same mud agitator, for similar situation, it running perfectly in most rig mud system, but in 1 or 2 jobsite, it usually shut down and worn out?

Per experience from GN jobsite engineer, main reason lies on the maintenance. For rig sites with agitator running problem, it is usually that, the operator do not have enough training and knowledge on mud agitator maintenance.

What is the right way to running mud agitator:

1) Rightmaitenance per use manual, like add gear box oil to appointed level with the right oil model

2) If the machine will not be used for som time, add oil to the appointed oil and cover it to provented from raining or moisture.

3) Do not disassembly the mud agitator without professional people: If the gear box and motor not connected in the exact right way, it may cause a big eccentricity. The mud agitator will be worn our in a very short time.

For a stable performance and longtime running of mud agitator, regularly lubrication of gear box is necessary.

Routine lubrication consists of checking gearbox oil level and oil condition and lubricating gearbox bearings at required intervals.

Before operation, liberate gearbox with L-CKE/P 220~320# worn gear oil (while ambient temperature of drilling site around -30~40; or with L-CKE/P 320~460# worn gear oil (while ambient temperature around 25~65. Verify that lubricant level in the gear box reaches the bottom of the oil level plug.

Bearings should be cleaned and re-greased on the same schedule as oil changing. After cleaning, fill bearings to one-third of their free volume.

After 100 hours of initial startup, clean gearbox inside, add new grease oil. Then lubricated at every 2500-hour interval.
