Drilling activity in Libya has increased in 2023, with a number of new wells being spudded and brought online. This is due to a number of factors, including the improving security situation in the country, the rising price of oil, and the increased interest of foreign investors.↳
In the first quarter of 2023, there were a total of 15 new wells spudded in Libya, compared to just 6 in the same period of 2022. Of these, 10 wells were oil wells and 5 were gas wells. The increase in drilling activity has led to a number of new oil and gas discoveries. In February 2023, the NOC announced the discovery of a new oil field in the Sirte Basin. The field is estimated to contain 1 billion barrels of oil. In March 2023, the NOC also announced the discovery of a new gas field in the Murzuk Basin. The field is estimated to contain 1 trillion cubic feet of gas.
The NOC has plans to drill a total of 100 new wells in 2023, and a number of international oil companies are also planning to increase their drilling activity in the country. The oil and gas sector is the largest contributor to the Libyan economy, and the increase in drilling activity is expected to lead to an increase in oil and gas production. This will boost the economy and create jobs.
It is a sign that the country is moving forward and that the security situation is improving.
